EXPLORATORY RESIDENCY PROGRAM
Salomée Souag at her exhibition opening
Designed for artists with a medium to extensive background, this program offers an immersive environment for experimentation and artistic exchange. Residents are encouraged to explore new territories in their practice, supported by a balance of personal work time and cultural activities. The program fosters collaboration and engagement with Mexico City’s vibrant art scene, where residents are invited to push boundaries, take risks, and explore new forms of expression. Artists are guided by knowledgeable staff and participate in regular feedback sessions with peers and guest artists. Our program, created by artists for artists, includes:
-
Private accommodation with an ensuite bathroom is included, except for one spot per group where accommodation is not included.
-
Studio space
-
Logistical and technical support from Casa Lü staff for project execution
-
Excursions to galleries, museums, and studio visits with local artists
-
Weekly meetings with our team and fellow residents
-
Feedback and guidance from Casa Lü staff and local guest artists
-
A group exhibition at the end of the residency, complete with an opening reception and exhibition documentation
Gallerist Karen Huber visits our residents' studios.
The day after arrival, residents participate in a welcome breakfast followed by an introductory meeting. This meeting includes a review of the Residents Manual, the schedule of activities, house guidelines, and a Q&A session. Afterward, each resident has a one-on-one meeting with the coordinator to discuss their project and specific needs.
Weekly cultural outings are an integral part of the program, highlighting some of our favorite galleries, museums, and artists’ studios. These outings, along with individual and group meetings, provide regular opportunities for reflection, discussion, and exchange.
At the end of the program, residents present their work in a group exhibition, which remains on view for the weekend. This exhibition is a culminating moment where residents share the outcomes of their residency experience with the local community.
It is important to note that the program is rich in organized activities designed to engage residents fully with the artistic and cultural fabric of Mexico City. While this structure offers a deeply immersive experience, it may result in a more packed schedule than some might anticipate. Prospective residents are encouraged to consider arriving in Mexico City a week prior to the start of the residency, allowing time for exploration and acclimatization. This preparation ensures that artists can devote their residency time to their work without distraction, benefiting fully from the opportunities Casa Lü offers.
