"In Tibetan, the word for body is 'lü', which means 'something you leave behind,' like baggage. Each time we say 'lü', it reminds us that we are only travelers, taking temporary refuge in this life and this body."
Casa Lü is also a place where you can take temporary refuge to concentrate on your artistic practice. The aim of our program is for residents to focus on the production of their work while creating a network and dialogue within emerging artists from all over the world.
OUR HOUSE is located in the south part of the city, somewhere between the trendy neighbourhoods of Roma and Condesa and the picturesque and peaceful neighbourhoods of San Ángel and Coyoacán. We are close to the beautiful and lush 'Parque Hundido' park that has great running paths and artistic reproductions of precolombian stone work. The neighborhood is mainly residential, but it also has some restaurants, cafés and shops. The proximity to metro and metrobús lines makes it easy to move around the city and to the near by art supplies stores.
A few bus stops away from the University Cultural Center, with the contemporary art museum MUAC and a sculpture garden surrounded by nature and petrified lava that contrasts with the huge and colourful geometric sculptures.
This residency program is ideal for artists who wish to be part of Mexico City’s dynamic art scene, not only by visiting museums and galleries but also openings and other events.
THE SHARED STUDIO is divided between 4 residents and each one gets a space of 250 x 350 cm approximately. The window faces east so the sun comes in strongly during the morning. Artists can choose their table according to the order of arrival at the residency.
THE PRIVATE STUDIO measures 325 x 380 cm. There is a sink just outside the entrance door. The window faces west so the studio has a fresh temperature and the sun comes in lightly during the afternoon.
